The agreement on the exchange of remote sensing data of the BRICS, signed on Wednesday by the member countries of the association (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), was the first step in the cooperation of the "five" in space. This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, which this year chairs the "five", the BRICS Sherpa Sanjay Bhattacharya.
"I am sure that this is only the beginning of our cooperation and interaction in the study and peaceful use of outer space for the socio-economic development of our peoples in the areas defined by this agreement," Bhattacharya said, whose speech was published on the website of the Indian Foreign Ministry. The agreement was signed during a meeting held in the format of a videoconference. The document provides for the exchange of remote sensing data received by satellites of the member countries of the association.
"The final revision and adoption of the Agreement on the Grouping of BRICS Remote Sensing Satellites is an important step in our work and an important milestone for BRICS cooperation. It will play an important role in improving the lives of our citizens in many ways," Bhattacharya said.
He added that the signed document will help accelerate cooperation in various sectors, including global climate change, agriculture and food security, disaster prevention and water resources management.
"I am glad that this agreement was finally concluded under the chairmanship of India this year, and I would like to express my gratitude for the great work done by the previous BRICS Chairmen over the past few years to help us get closer to a consensus.
