For 90 Martian days, the device collected 10 GB of environmental data
BEIJING, August 17. /TASS/. The Chinese rover "Zhuzhong" made a journey of 889 meters on the surface of Mars in three months. This was reported on Tuesday by the Central Television of China.
Zhuzhong, together with the Tianwen-1 interplanetary station, reached Mars on May 15 of this year. As of August 15, he spent 90 Martian days there (about 24 hours and 40 minutes long). Moving along the surface of the planet, the device collected 10 GB of environmental data.
The rover's navigation camera captures data about the terrain and terrain of the planet. The device also has a radar that studies the structure of the surface layer of the soil and examines it for the possible presence of ground ice. In addition, Zhuzhong is equipped with a meteorological measuring device, it receives data on temperature, pressure, wind speed and direction, as well as other data that are used to study the physical characteristics of the Martian atmosphere.
Currently, the rover is in good condition and has a sufficient supply of energy. The device continues to move in the direction of the southern part of the Martian plain Utopia, where, presumably, there was a junction of the ancient sea and land, the TV channel reported.
The automatic interplanetary station "Tianwen-1" made a successful landing on Mars on May 15. On May 22, the Zhuzhong descended from the landing platform and began to study the soil, ionosphere and climate.
The Tianwen-1 station was launched on July 23, 2020 using the Changzheng-5 launch vehicle from the Wenchang Cosmodrome, located in the southern Chinese province of Hainan. In February, the station reached the orbit of Mars.
