The chief designer of the Il-76 and Il-78 aircraft, Andrey Yurasov, has died at the age of 59. This was announced on Tuesday, August 17, according to the Telegram channel "Il-novosti".
"The Chief designer Yurasov Andrey Vladimirovich has died. His career path from technician to chief designer was inextricably linked with the Ilyushin Aviation Complex, where he came in 1981," the report says.
The press service of Il (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of the Rostec State Corporation) clarified that Yurasov died the day before in Moscow at the age of 60 after a serious illness, TASS writes.
Andrey Yurasov was born on October 26, 1961 in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Aircraft Engineering Institute (MAI) and immediately went to work for PJSC "Il", where he worked for 34 years. In 2004, he became the head of the entire complex of works on the modernization of Il-76 and Il-78 aircraft for both the Russian Aerospace Forces and civil aviation.
Yurasov participated in the work on the introduction of the modernized Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft into mass production. So, under his leadership, all the systems of the first prototype aircraft were tested, which allowed us to start flight tests.
