The Brazilian company Embraer has shown the concept of a turboprop passenger aircraft with engines in the tail section. This configuration should make it less noisy. According [...] to Flightglobal, the Embraer turboprop aircraft can replace the aging ERJ and CRJ200.
Today, turboprop passenger aircraft are not as popular as they used to be. They are considered cramped and noisy. Some families of turboprop aircraft, such as the Embraer ERJ and Bombardier CRJ200, are no longer produced. But they still remain in the fleets of many airlines, because there is no suitable replacement for them.
The three popular turboprop aircraft all in production are upgraded versions of older aircraft. These are the Canadian Dash 8-400 and the French-Italian ATR 42-600 and 72-600.
Last summer, Embraer announced the development of a new turboprop aircraft designed for 70-100 passenger seats. It was assumed that the company would take the narrow-body medium-haul E175-E2 as the basis for creating a new aircraft . All this was confirmed by an illustration that was posted last October [...] by the head of commercial aviation at Embraer, Aryan Meyer. It showed a turboprop aircraft with a fuselage like the E195-E2, and two turboprop engines above the wing.
Embraer published a new concept of a turboprop passenger aircraft on August 13-with engines in the tail section. According to Luis Carlos Affonso, the company's vice president for technology and corporate strategy, this design will make the cabin of the aircraft quiet. The power plants will be traditional, not electric or hydrogen. Embraer plans to launch the aircraft in 2022, and start operation in 2027 or 2028.
Russia is also developing a regional passenger turboprop aircraft-the IL-114-300. Earlier we wrote that he made the first flight.
