The head of the strategic command of the US armed forces, Charles Richard, said that US military sensors do not effectively detect the presence of hypersonic missiles, and Russia is a leader in creating this type of weapon. He announced this at the annual symposium on space and missile defense, RIA Novosti reports.
"Because of these problems, our current architecture of ground-based and space-based sensors may not be sufficient to detect and track these hypersonic missiles," he said.
According to him, Russia continues to invest a lot of money in the development of hypersonic aircraft.
The Zircon is the world's first hypersonic sea-based cruise missile, its flight speed reaches about nine speeds of sound, the maximum firing range is up to 1 thousand km.
It is planned to equip submarines and surface ships of the Russian Navy with the Zircon complex, the Defense Ministry noted.
