The US Air Force has carried out several air strikes on the positions of the radical Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) over the past 24-48 hours and will continue to provide air support to the Afghan security forces at least until August 31.
This was stated by Pentagon press Secretary John Kirby at a regular briefing for journalists.
"They (the Afghan security forces) really have advantages in the fight against the Taliban, including the advantage of additional air support from the United States, which we continue to provide. We have carried out several airstrikes in the last 24-48 hours. We continue to support them, and they have advantages that the Taliban does not have, "Kirby said.
"Our authority to provide air support to Afghanistan expires at the end of this month due to the withdrawal of troops," Kirby replied.
At the same time, he added that the "professional and well-trained" Afghan Air Force carries out more air strikes on Taliban positions than the American armed forces. Victory over the Taliban " depends on the Afghan leadership, both political and military."
He denied reports that the Afghan soldiers "just roll up and leave" during the battles, noting that in many regions of the country they "resist". As Kirby stressed, it has now become clear that the Taliban intends to achieve its goals "by force and brutality."
