The department stressed that they are in constant contact with their Russian colleagues
NEW YORK, August 9. /TASS/. The final information on the incident with the emergency activation of the engines of the Russian Nauka module after docking with the International Space Station (ISS) will be available in two to three weeks. This assessment was made on Monday by the head of the American ISS program, Joel Montalbano, at a press conference that was broadcast on the website of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
"We are in constant contact with our Russian colleagues, among other things, through the flight control centers. So the work is underway, but it's too early to say anything yet. We will be able to report something specific in two or three weeks, " he said in response to a question when the reasons for the incident will be announced.
The multi-purpose laboratory module "Science" was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on July 21. On July 29, the module docked to the ISS. After docking, NASA reported that the engines of the "Science" inadvertently and unexpectedly began working at 12:45 on the time of the East Coast of the United States (19:45 Moscow time) on July 29. The crew was not threatened by the situation. The investigation of the causes of the incident is conducted by Roscosmos. Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin later said that the module's engines turned on due to problems related to the control system algorithms.
