YEKATERINBURG, August 9. /TASS/. More than 10 aircraft and helicopters of the Central Military District (CVO) will be involved in joint exercises of Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Kharb-Maydon training ground 20 km from the border with Afghanistan. This was reported to journalists in the press service of the district on Monday.
"A flight of Su-25 attack aircraft, Mi-24 attack helicopters, as well as Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters of various modifications are involved in practical actions. At the main stage of the exercises, the pilots will perform tasks to search for disguised bases of a conditional enemy, to launch missile and bomb attacks on targets that simulate the accumulation of manpower and equipment," the report says.
The press service clarified that the crews of transport and amphibious helicopters will ensure the landing of tactical troops, as well as work out techniques for getting out from under the blows of portable anti-aircraft missile systems of a conditional enemy.
Earlier, the district noted that the exercises are being held against the background of the destabilization of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan in order to work out issues of repelling possible threats and practical cooperation to ensure security and preserve stability in the Central Asian region.
At the exercises, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will work out practical actions to destroy gangs, conduct aerial reconnaissance and protect objects. In total, 2.5 thousand military personnel are involved, of which 1.8 thousand are from Russia, and about 500 units of weapons and military equipment. The basis of the Russian military contingent at the exercises are the units of the 201st military base. The exercises will last until August 10.
