Yuri Smirnov, head of the Laboratory for the development and Implementation of Biomedical programs of the IMBP RAS, is convinced that the presence of specialized specialists in the cosmonaut detachment (Roscosmos or the Academy of Sciences) would be very useful
MOSCOW, August 9. /TASS/. Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP) The Russian Academy of Sciences is considering the possibility of creating a group of scientists who could be sent into space to conduct experiments. This was announced in an interview with TASS by Yuri Smirnov, head of the laboratory for the development and implementation of biomedical programs of the IMBP RAS.
"This question was mentioned. This is a very interesting idea. We are considering the possibility of creating a group of specialists who can conduct research, which can only be performed by a professional, in the conditions of space flight," Smirnov said, answering the question whether the IMBP creates a kind of scientist "landing" for flights to the ISS.
According to the scientist, many young active employees of the institute dream of becoming astronauts. He is convinced that the presence of specialized specialists in the cosmonaut squad (Roscosmos or the Academy of Sciences) would be very useful.
"The accelerated training of narrow specialists for space flight will allow us to include experiments that can only be performed by a person with a specialized education. For example, some invasive techniques or biological experiments that require specialized skills. In principle, this can change the scientific program, " he added.
During a speech at the Summer Space School in early August, Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin spoke about the idea of sending young scientists to the ISS so that they could independently conduct research. According to him, this will be possible if the experiment on rapid preparation for a flight into space is successful.
