Last year, the Japanese company Tetra Aviation won a cash prize of $ 100,000 for the development of a 33-engine single-seat electric aircraft of the eVTOL Mk-5 type, winning the prestigious GoFly Prize flying machine competition sponsored by the Boeing Corporation.

32 engines responsible for vertical takeoff are located on the wings in front and behind the pilot's cabin. The 33rd engine provides forward movement. The frame of the device is made of high – strength aluminum alloy, and the fuselage is made of light carbon reinforced polymer and aramid fibers.

The presented prototype has already made several flights. Its dimensions are 6.15 x 8.62 x 2.51 m. The power source is a battery pack with a capacity of 13.5 kWh, the weight without cargo is 488 kg and with a load-up to 567 kg (the pilot's weight is not more than 80 kg). The cruising speed of the Mk-5 is 160 km/h, the flight range is 160 km on a single charge. Safety is provided by three backup flight controllers, which in an emergency situation redistribute power to all 32 engines. In extreme cases, the immobilized aircraft will descend to the ground using a standard ballistic parachute. Tetra Aviation plans to sell its cars as individual aircraft, which will require a private pilot's license to operate. The price of the Mk-5 is still unknown.
