NASA has announced the recruitment of volunteers to participate in an experiment to simulate life on Mars. This was announced on August 7 by the Abc13 TV channel.
The habitat, where four participants will live for a year, was created using a 3D printer and is located inside the building of the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The participants will have "spacewalks", limited communication with their loved ones, they will have a meager supply of food and resources, as well as a lack of gadgets.
The first of the experiments will begin in the fall, NASA plans to conduct three studies in total.
"We want to understand how people act in such conditions," said lead scientist Grace Douglas.
Acceptance of applications began on August 6. Among the requirements for applicants are academic degrees in engineering, mathematics or natural sciences. Only Americans or residents of the United States are eligible to participate.
Volunteers aged from 30 to 55 years with good health will be allowed to participate.
At the end of 2020, the founder of SpaceX, American businessman and engineer Elon Musk promised to deliver a man to Mars in the next six years. At the same time, he had been planning to send the ship without a crew for two years.
On May 5, a prototype of SpaceX's Starship spacecraft, which is planned to be sent to the Red Planet along with 100 passengers, successfully landed at a test site in Texas. Testing of the prototype is carried out regularly, several previous launches ended in failure.
