Washington. August 5. INTERFAX-The US Defense Ministry reported that the US State Department approved the sale to Taiwan of 40 units of 155-mm self-propelled howitzer artillery systems M109A6 worth $750 million.
The package will include the howitzers themselves, almost 1.7 thousand sets of guidance systems, spare parts and modernization of previous-generation guns in service with Taiwan, the Pentagon noted.
He has already notified Congress about the possible sale on Wednesday.
Taiwan's military department on Thursday expressed "sincere gratitude" to the United States, saying that this will help to increase" the ability of its ground forces to quickly respond and fire support, "as well as that the supply of American weapons is"the basis for maintaining regional stability."
At the same time, the Pentagon's message does not specify that the supply contract has already been signed.
