Dubai. August 4. INTERFAX-Iran will be able to achieve a breakthrough in the development of nuclear weapons in 10 weeks, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Wednesday at a meeting with diplomats of states that are members of the UN Security Council.
"Iran has violated all the conditions stipulated in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and it is only about 10 weeks away from receiving the weapons materials necessary for nuclear weapons, "the Jerusalem Post quoted the minister as saying at the meeting, which was also attended by Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.
"Therefore, there is time to act. The world should impose economic sanctions and take prompt actions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC - IF) of Iran, " he added.
The meeting also touched upon the topic of the attack on the Mercer Street tanker, which Israel had previously accused Iran of organizing.
Ganz noted that the commander of the IRGC Air Force drone Forces, Seyed Ara Jani, is responsible for the use of suicide drones in the region.
"Ara Jani is the head of the IRGC Air Force unmanned systems that struck Mercer Street. He provides supplies, training, planning, and he is responsible for many acts of terror in the region," Gantz stressed.
He said that the commander of the Aerospace IRGC, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, is also behind dozens of attacks using drones and missiles in the region. Gantz also accused Iran of dozens of terrorist attacks in the Middle East, of supporting pro-Iranian forces in Yemen, Iraq and other countries, and promised to provide detailed intelligence on this matter.
In turn, the Israeli Foreign Minister pointed out that Iran has recently been attacking international trade routes, and the international community is obliged to respond.
"This is an attack on freedom of movement. This is an international crime, " he said.
The Jerusalem Post reminds that the members of the UN Security Council with representation in Israel are Russia, the United States, Great Britain, China, France, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway and Vietnam.
During Trump's presidency, the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and restored sanctions against Tehran. In response, Iran stopped fulfilling the terms of the agreement. In recent months, a negotiation process has been taking place in Vienna, at which the parties must decide how both countries can return to compliance with the agreement.
