The deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, said that President Assad's troops successfully repelled an attack by Israeli aircraft with the help of Russian-made air defense systems early on Sunday.
"From 05: 40 to 05: 54 on July 25, two F-16 tactical fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force, without entering the airspace of the Syrian Arab Republic, struck two aircraft guided missiles from the southwest direction at objects in the territory of the settlement of Seidat Zeinab in the province of Damascus. With the use of Russian-made Buk-M2E complexes in service with the air defense of the Syrian armed forces, both missiles were destroyed, " Kulit said at a briefing.
This is not the first time that the modern air defense systems acquired by Syria from the Russian Federation are effectively operating in a real combat situation. So, earlier, Rear Admiral Kulit said that on July 22, the Syrian government army, using Russian-made air defense systems, shot down four missiles fired by Israeli F-16 fighters from Lebanese airspace.
It is known that the Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile system uses a modern information display system using a new element base and liquid crystal indicators. The combat means of this complex are equipped with a radar recognition system for seven classes of air targets, including hovering helicopters, which made it possible to increase the effectiveness of this air defense system by 2-4 times. The machine has become more convenient to use.
Among other advantages of the Buk-M2, experts call high noise immunity. And the complex is also capable of hitting high-precision weapons with high efficiency, which poses the greatest danger to air defense systems. In the standard configuration, one Buk-2M unit is capable of firing simultaneously at several targets flying at different azimuths and altitudes.
