July 21, 2021, AviaStat.ru -The VK-650V engine demonstrator developed by the Rostec United Engine Corporation JSC "UEC-Klimov" is at the second stage of the test program. For the first time, an exhibition sample of the engine was presented at the International Aerospace Salon MAKS-2021, the press service of the UEC reports.
The intermediate stage of testing of the VK-650V demonstrator engine has been completed and the first part of autonomous testing of components has been carried out. Refined characteristics were obtained. The second stage of testing of the demonstrator engine has begun.
Further, UEC-Klimov JSC plans to proceed to engineering tests of prototypes, during which a preliminary check of the characteristics embedded in the engine and preparation for test tests will be performed.
"The VK-650V project is getting its first external contracts. The Russian Helicopters Holding Company has expressed its intention to sign the first supply contracts. These will be engines for conducting flight design tests as part of modified helicopters to ensure remotorization, " said Anastasia Solovyova, director of the PDV program-Chief designer of UEC-Klimov JSC.
The VK-650V engine is being created in a wide industry cooperation. At partner enterprises, the material part of the engine prototypes is manufactured. Thus, FSUE "VIAM" became a manufacturer and supplier of additive blanks (turbine nozzles, transition channel, etc.). The enterprises of the United Engine Corporation JSC "UEC-Klimov" and PJSC "UEC-UMPO" manufactured parts and assemblies from blanks supplied by "VIAM". Currently, UEC-UMPO is implementing technologies for welding and soldering additive blanks developed by VIAM. By the time of the creation of the 3rd prototype VK-650V, the Ufa enterprise will already have implemented technologies that allow for the full production of additive engine parts.
The VK-650V engine has a take-off power of 650 hp, is designed for operation as part of the Russian Ka-226T light class helicopters. It is also possible to install it on ANSAT, VRT500 helicopters and foreign helicopters of the same class of payload capacity. The main advantages of the new engine are a well-developed after-sales service system and a high resource while maintaining competitive technical characteristics of the engine.
The first VK-650V demonstrator engine was assembled in December 2020. At the beginning of 2021, the first successful launch was performed with the ignition of the combustion chamber. The certification of the engine is scheduled for 2023.
Visitors of the MAKS-2021 International Aerospace Salon can see the VK-650B model as part of the general exhibition exposition of the UEC stand in Pavilion C1.
