The US Navy has received an unusual vessel that resembles a brick in its shape, writes Popular Mechanics.
According to the magazine, the floating barracks APL 67 is intended for temporary accommodation of sailors in the event that their main ship is unsuitable for being on it, for example, is under maintenance.
The publication notes that the APL 67 is devoid of engines and weapons. The floating barracks is more than 267 meters long and 20 meters wide. The height of APL 67 is estimated to be about four floors above the water. The vessel can accommodate 56 officers and 228 enlisted men. APL 67 has, in particular, toilets, recreation rooms, laundries, a barber shop, a fitness center and medical offices.
Currently, APL 67 is being transported from Pascagoula (Mississippi) to San Diego (California), from where the ship should go to Yokosuka (Japan).
Popular Mechanics reminds that the US Navy has several similar floating barracks located in different regions of the world.
