ZHUKOVSKY /Moscow region/, July 24. /TASS/. Joint space missions with international partners can be carried out in the future with the help of the Zeus nuclear tug being developed in the Russian Federation. This was reported to TASS by a source in the rocket and space industry.
"First of all, the project is being created for our Academy of Sciences. But the issue of international cooperation is also being worked out: we can carry out missions with the participation of foreign payloads, " the agency's interlocutor said on the sidelines of the International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS).
According to the source, the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences is engaged in working out the scientific program. "Our academicians have a lot of ideas," he added.
In December last year, it became known that Roscosmos and the Arsenal Design Bureau signed a contract for the development of an advance project of the nuclear tug "Nucleon", which will be used for flights into deep space. The contract value is more than 4.17 billion rubles. It was concluded on December 10. The end date of the contract is indicated as July 28, 2024.
At the end of December, the general director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, announced that the device would be called "Zeus".
