Zhukovsky. July 23. INTERFAX-Russia is fulfilling contracts for the supply of Su-30SME fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft to Myanmar, Dmitry Shugaev, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia, told Interfax.
"Contracts for the supply of Su-30SME multi-purpose fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft are being successfully implemented. Equipping this equipment will significantly increase the capabilities of Myanmar's combat aviation, " Shugaev said at the MAKS-2021 aviation exhibition.
According to him, Myanmar remains one of Russia's main partners in Southeast Asia.
"I would like to note the joint success in equipping the Myanmar Air Force with Russian aircraft of various types. Currently, the Myanmar Air Force operates MiG-29 and Yak-130 aircraft, " Shugaev said.
Russia and Myanmar are working closely on the arms market, the head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, said earlier. "We are closely cooperating on the supply of military products, including aviation," Mikheev told Interfax at the MAKS-2021 air show.
According to him, Myanmar is one of the key customers of Rosoboronexport and Rostec's partners in Southeast Asia.
A military coup took place in Myanmar on February 1. The power passed to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Hline, the United States and Britain imposed sanctions against structures in Myanmar related to the military coup.
As Interfax reported, in March, Deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry Alexander Fomin visited Myanmar. He held talks with the country's military leadership and became a guest of the parade in honor of the 76th anniversary of the formation of the Myanmar armed forces.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Myanmar in January. During the visit of the Russian Defense Minister, an agreement was signed on the supply of Pantsir-S1 short-range anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, Orlan-10E reconnaissance drones and radar stations to Myanmar.

On January 20, Fomin said that Myanmar could receive Russian - made aircraft and armored vehicles, as well as air defense systems, in the coming years. "Russia has already delivered MiG-29 and Yak-130 aircraft, Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters to Myanmar. In the coming years, the possibility of supplying other samples of modern aviation equipment, armored vehicles, Russian - made air defense systems is being considered," Fomin said in an interview with RT.
In 2018, Fomin reported that an agreement was reached between Russia and Myanmar on the purchase of six Su-30 aircraft.
In March last year, Shugaev told Interfax that deliveries of Su-30 fighters to Myanmar will be completed in 2021-2022. "In 2021-2022, as specified in the terms of the contract," Shugaev said, answering a question about the delivery time of the Su - 30 to Myanmar.
Earlier, Myanmar purchased a batch of Yak-130 combat training aircraft from the Russian Federation.
