ZHUKOVSKY, July 23-RIA Novosti. The first Russian interceptor drone "Wolf-18" is planned to be used at airports to destroy intruder drones that can interfere with the operation of air harbors, tests are being completed, Dmitry Savitsky, Deputy General Director of the Almaz-Antey concern for products for the air navigation system and dual-use products, told RIA Novosti during the MAKS-2021 air show.
He explained that the concern has created a complex for ensuring the security of infrastructure facilities ROSC-1, which includes both information tools, including radar and video cameras for detecting drones and systems for suppressing their control channels, and the Wolf drone as a means of physical influence on intruder drones. The "Wolf" will be launched when the means of electronic suppression cannot be used, so as not to disrupt the operation of the airport systems.
"Now, together with the Federal Air Transport Agency, we are conducting state tests of the ROSC system, including the Wolf-18 drone. We plan to complete the tests this year. Then we are considering the possibility of delivering the system to several Russian airports, " Savitsky said.
The deputy head of the concern noted that the idea of creating a system with a Wolf interceptor drone arose after an emergency situation at London Gatwick airport in December 2018, when the flight of unknown drones in the air harbor area blocked its operation and led to multimillion-dollar losses.
Earlier, Savitsky told RIA Novosti that the "Wolf" drone hunter can also be used to intercept illegal parcels to prisons that attackers send using other drones.
The small UAV "Volk-18" developed in the concern has grid guns for intercepting drones. The "wolf" approaches the intruder device and shoots a grid to block another drone from continuing the flight. If the "Wolf" does not achieve the result with the help of the grid gun, it rams the intruder drone.
