Moscow. July 22. INTERFAX-Air defense units stationed in the Moscow region conducted an exercise on Wednesday to repel a massive missile and air strike by a simulated enemy, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Thursday.
"The exercises involved units of anti-aircraft missile and radio engineering troops, including combat crews of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS), Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, radar stations and command posts, "the defense ministry said in a statement.
The announcement of the event said that the military had to work out the issues of Moscow's air defense at this exercise.
The report emphasizes that the calculations of the S-400 and Pantsir-S complexes performed conditional launches of anti-aircraft guided missiles at control targets, practiced maneuvering to new combat positions with further deployment in combat order and destruction of detected targets.
The Defense Ministry added that the tactical exercise was held on July 21, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the repulse of the first German air raid on Moscow during the Great Patriotic War.
The S-400 Triumph system (Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region) is designed to destroy strategic and tactical aircraft, ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets and other means of air attack. The system is capable of hitting aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 400 km, as well as ballistic targets flying at a speed of up to 4.8 km/s at altitudes from several meters to several tens of kilometers at a range of up to 60 km.
