The Defense Ministry plans to build several more such stations on the territory of the country, said Lieutenant General Andrey Demin, commander of the 1st Army of Air and Missile Defense (special purpose)
MOSCOW, July 21. /TASS/. After modernization, the Container over-the-horizon radar station (radar) will detect the launch and flight of promising enemy hypersonic missiles. This was announced by the commander of the 1st Army of Air and Missile Defense (special purpose), Lieutenant General Andrey Demin.
"Currently, work is underway, as a result of which the over - the-horizon radar will be able to detect the launch and flight of promising enemy hypersonic missiles, "Demin said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
According to him, the over-the-horizon radar "Container", which has taken up combat duty in Kovylkin (Republic of Mordovia), is able to observe the mass flight of air targets, including cruise missiles, at a distance of up to 2.8 thousand km.
"Thanks to the capabilities of the over - the-horizon radar, we are viewing a large territory of Western Europe, part of the Middle East, the Caspian states, the waters of the Baltic, Black and Mediterranean Seas and reliably control the air situation over these regions," Demin said.
He said that the Russian Defense Ministry plans to build several more such stations on the territory of the country, thereby creating a continuous radar field at a distance of about 2 thousand km from the state border.
