The Checkmate light tactical fighter (LTS) is a light "cavalry" capable of making unexpected moves and deciding the outcome of the entire party, Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, explained the name of the aircraft in an interview with RIA Novosti at the MAKS-2021 air Show.
"The philosophy of the project is reflected in the name of the machine: Checkmate means "checkmate"in English. Using chess terminology, the LTS is a light "cavalry", light and maneuverable, capable of making unexpected moves and deciding the course of the game," Chemezov said.
The prototype of the Checkmate light tactical fighter was presented for the first time at the MAKS-2021 Air Show on Tuesday. The aircraft is being developed by Sukhoi (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of the Rostec State Corporation). The machine is focused on export deliveries.
