The newest Russian light tactical fighter Checkmate can get the name Su-75 on the Russian market. This was announced on Tuesday, July 20, by Alexey Bulatov, deputy chief designer of the aircraft, at the MAKS-2021 International Aerospace Salon
"75 is a lucky number for the Sukhoi company historically. And the Su-35 plane, the Su-27 plane, and the Su-117 plane are all the number 7. And, of course, our Su — 57. Here we believe that [the new aircraft] will complement the Su-57 and, accordingly, we see this addition as a distribution of tasks <... > and a change in numbers, " Bulatov told reporters at the presentation of the aircraft.
According to him, a carrier-based fighter can be created on the basis of the presented aircraft.
"The ship version is also being considered <...> this will be a separate topic, today we are considering the basic version," Bulatov added.
He noted that in addition to the ship version, the creation of a two-seat and unmanned is being considered.
Earlier in the day, the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, said that the cost of the new Russian Checkmate fighter will be $25-30 million.
According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, Russia already has a foreign customer for a new fighter.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a visit to MAKS-2021, examined a model of the aircraft in the Sukhoi pavilion. As specified in Rostec, there were no analogues of such an aircraft in Russia yet.
