Greece intends to transfer to Egypt the BMP-1s that were in service with it. At the International Defense Exhibition DEFEA 2021 held in Athens in May, a sample of an infantry fighting vehicle that was repaired at one of the local enterprises was presented.

As noted, during the work on the tower, armed with a 73-mm smoothbore gun 2A28 "Thunder", the installation of an anti-tank guided missile system "Competition"is now provided.
During operation, M2HB Browning heavy machine guns were installed in the Greek Army, they have now been removed.
Now there are seven cars at the plant where the delivery is being prepared, the restoration of which is being slowed down due to problems with components. Nevertheless, it is expected that sea trials of the first three ready-made "units"will begin in September.
In total, the ARE ground forces should receive 92 such armored vehicles free of charge. Information about this was first made public in 2019.
Greece in the early 90s received from Germany about 500 Soviet-made BMP-1s, which were previously operated in the National People's Army of the GDR.
It is known that some of these machines began to perform the functions of air defense. The towers were dismantled from them and small-caliber automatic anti-aircraft guns ZU-23-2 were installed.
Earlier, Greece has already supplied such IFVs to Iraq, only 100 units.
