MOSCOW, July 15-RIA Novosti. Two pairs of MiG-31 and Su-35 fighters escorted three US Air Force B-52N strategic bombers that approached the Russian border over the Bering Sea, the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation reports.
The release notes that on July 15, three air targets approaching the state border of the Russian Federation were detected by Russian means of controlling the airspace over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea.
"To identify air targets and prevent violations of the state border of the Russian Federation, two pairs of MiG-31 and Su-35 fighters from the air defense forces of the Eastern Military District on duty were lifted into the air," the report says.
The crews of Russian fighter jets identified the air targets as strategic B-52N bombers of the US Air Force and escorted them over the Bering Sea.
"There has been no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation," the message adds.
It is emphasized that after the turn of the American bombers from the state border, the Russian fighters landed safely at the home airfields. The flight of the Russian aircraft was carried out in strict accordance with the international rules for the use of airspace.
