The decree of the government of the Research Institute "Voskhod" published on Monday allocated 216,445. 9 thousand rubles from the reserve fund for the transfer of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University "for the use of domestic and (or) freely distributed software".
Microsoft refused to sell its software products to MSTU in December 2020 due to anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the US government.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, together with the Voskhod Research Institute and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, formed a project office in April to implement a pilot project on import substitution of software products at the university. It is supposed to choose an operating system based on Linux, determine the list of application software and test it on the selected OS, develop a transition procedure.
By September 2021, at least five thousand automated workplaces at MSTU will be transferred to the use of domestic and (or) freely distributed software, the government's order says.
Control over the targeted and effective use is entrusted to the Ministry of Finance of Russia, it must submit a report to the government of the Russian Federation by October 20, 2021.
