MOSCOW, July 12-RIA Novosti. The possible use by Russia and China of drones and weapons systems based on artificial intelligence is of concern to the Pentagon. Columnist Chris Osborne writes about this in his article for The National Interest.
The author refers to the statement of Lieutenant General Michael Groen, who believes that if Russia creates a "military AI", the United States and its allies will not be able to give an equivalent answer.
He explained this by the fact that a weapon controlled by artificial intelligence will not be guided by ethical or humanitarian considerations to launch an attack, whereas in the United States, which does not have such a system, the decision to attack will be made by people.
In this regard, the Lieutenant General considers it necessary to create and use highly effective weapons with AI support in accordance with existing ethical standards.
Currently, the US Department of Defense is considering the possibility of creating artificial intelligence systems that are capable of using non-lethal or defensive weapons against approaching anti-ship missiles, mortars and drones.
This, according to the military, will help to introduce ethical principles into the use of weapons based on artificial intelligence.
