TSAMTO, July 12. According to the US Embassy in Manila, on July 4, representatives of the Joint US Military Assistance Group in the Philippines (JUSMAG-P) handed over new weapons and ammunition to the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the amount of 48.5 million pesos ($1 million).
The transfer ceremony took place at Clark Air Force Base.
The gratuitous delivery, financed by the United States, included 14 units of 12.7-mm M2A1 machine guns, 7 M240B machine guns and several thousand rounds of ammunition. The purpose of the military assistance package is to expand the capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to counter terrorism.
The Philippines is by far the largest recipient of US military assistance in the Indo-Pacific region. Since 2015, the United States has supplied the Philippines with aircraft, ships, armored vehicles, small arms and other military equipment worth more than 48.6 billion pesos ($1 billion).
