TSAMTO, July 12. The issue of ratification of the agreement on the establishment of a logistics center for the Russian Navy in Port Sudan will be considered by the Sovereign Council and the government of Sudan, Foreign Minister of this country Maryam al-Mahdi said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The Sudanese Foreign Minister arrived in Russia on Sunday on a visit.

According to al-Mahdi, during a recent visit to Russia, Sudanese Defense Minister Yassin Ibrahim Yassin "clarified this issue"at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu.

The Foreign Minister noted that the agreement on the establishment of a logistics center for the Russian Navy in Sudan was signed by the Military Council of the Sudan in 2019, but has not yet been ratified.

"The process of ratification of any international agreement requires passing through the legislative council, but in its absence at present... the Council of Ministers on the one hand and the civil wing of the Sovereign Council on the other hand should study such agreements before they are ratified," al-Mahdi told RIA Novosti, noting that all agreements previously concluded by Sudan, but not ratified by parliament, are now going through this procedure.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted for ratification to the State Duma an agreement between the Russian Federation and Sudan on the creation of a logistics point for the Russian Navy.

As the agency reminds, the agreement to create a Russian Navy point in Sudan became known in November 2020. According to the document, the maximum number of personnel of the naval station, whose work should be carried out by the forces and means of the Russian side, will not exceed 300 people. No more than four Russian ships will be able to stay there at the same time.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Sudan, Muhammad Usman al-Hussein, said that the country intends to review the agreement on the creation of a Russian military base on the Red Sea, citing the fact that the document was adopted by the previous government, but not ratified by parliament.
