Norway and Germany have completed long-term negotiations on the purchase of new submarines. Yesterday, on July 9, the press service of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) announced the signing of the "largest contract in history".
The contract worth a total of €5.5 billion includes the construction of six Type 212CD submarines. Four of them are intended for the Norwegian Navy, two more — for the German Navy. The assembly of the first submarine will begin in 2023, and by 2029 the submarine should be transferred to the Norwegian Navy. The delivery of two submarines for the German Navy is planned for 2032 and 2034.

Norway and Germany signed a cooperation agreement in 2017, but due to lengthy negotiations, the contract was signed only yesterday. The Type 212CD project is a deep modernization of the Type 212A submarine. From the voiced characteristics, it is known that the surface displacement of the Type 212CD will be about 2500 tons, the length is 73 m.
