Moscow. July 8. INTERFAX-An operational group headed by the chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, is developing measures to reduce tension on the Tajik-Afghan border, one of the sections of this border has been flown.
"The visit to the Tajik-Afghan border section gave the task force an opportunity to objectively assess the state of affairs on the ground and contributed to the development of objective proposals to reduce tension on the Tajik-Afghan border and prepare proposals for joint measures in the CSTO format," the press service of the CSTO Joint Staff (OSH) said in a statement issued on Thursday.
It was noted that " the task force examined the area of the border of Tajikistan, where the most numerous military personnel of the government troops of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with weapons (more than 200 military personnel) were recorded from Afghanistan."
The Joint Headquarters informs that the task force visited the Ninth border guard ("Kalay-Humb").
"A group of officers got acquainted on the ground with the procedure for ensuring the protection of the Tajik-Afghan border by the servicemen of the Border Troops of the republic, the staffing of the units with personnel, weapons and special equipment. The order of interaction with the units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan allocated to strengthen the protection of the state border was studied," the report says.
