Two Russian Su-24 aircraft did not violate international norms and the borders of other countries when flying over the Baltic Sea. This was announced on July 8 in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"On July 8, 2021, two Su-24 aircraft of the Baltic Fleet naval aviation performed a planned training flight in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea," the defense ministry told reporters.
The Defense Ministry stressed that " the flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace, without violating the borders of other states."
Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that the press conference of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda was interrupted due to the urgent departure of two NATO fighters to intercept a Russian plane.
"Two planes were recorded in the international airspace of Lithuania over the Baltic Sea, their flight plans were not reported, the pilots did not respond to requests, so the air police was called," the press secretary of the defense headquarters, Captain Andrews Dilda, later commented, as quoted by Delfi.
Dilda said that the Russian planes were flying from the Kaliningrad region to the mainland of Russia. According to him, both went without an agreed flight plan and did not maintain communication with the ground flight control center.
In mid-June, the press service of the general staff of the Estonian Defense Forces said that on the eve of two Russian Su-35 allegedly entered the country's airspace near the island of Hiiumaa without permission.
In turn, the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the Russian fighters conducted a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, without violating the borders of other countries.
