The Russian-American dialogue on strategic stability should take into account the US program for launching strike weapons into space, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, speaking on July 8 at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) with a lecture on "Russia's international activities for the development of Russian regions".
"Of course, when we talk about the need to discuss strategic stability in all its dimensions, we mean all the factors that affect this very strategic stability, strategic security," the minister said.
He specified that the factors are understood as nuclear weapons, non-nuclear weapons of the strategic plan, offensive and defensive strategic systems, and the program for launching strike weapons into space, which the United States is currently developing.
The Russian Foreign Minister added that the latter is being developed in the context of the deployment of a global missile defense system.
Speaking at the FEFU, Lavrov also rejected the statements of Western countries about the isolation of Russia in the international arena. He pointed out that the ranks of Russia's friends are constantly being replenished, although "the United States and its allies are actively trying to prevent this."
On July 6, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said: the Russian side has no doubt that the United States will want to limit it in weapons that are superior in quality to the American ones. At the same time, Ryabkov stressed that Russia will not allow the United States to devalue its strategic potential.
However, according to him, the Russian side does not exclude a dialogue with the United States on its latest weapons systems, provided that American advanced hypersonic weapons are also discussed.
