Two Su-30 fighters escorted a Boeing P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea. This was reported on Wednesday, July 7, in the Russian Defense Ministry.
"In the evening of July 6, an air target approaching the state border of the Russian Federation was detected by Russian means of airspace control over the neutral waters of the Black Sea," the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that two Su-30 fighters from the duty forces of naval aviation and air defense of the Black Sea Fleet were raised in order to identify an air target and prevent violations of the Russian state border.
"The crews of Russian fighter jets identified the aerial target as a Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft and escorted it over the Black Sea," the report says.
At the same time, the ministry stressed that the flight of Russian aircraft was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace. Violations of the state border of Russia were not allowed, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation noted.
Earlier, on June 23, a Russian Su-30SM fighter from the air defense forces of the Eastern Military District escorted an RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force over the Sea of Okhotsk.
