The United States should ensure the supply of new weapons, including M1 Abrams tanks, to Poland. Thus, NATO countries will be able to restrain Russia, according to Dan Gure, a columnist for The National Interest.
He pointed out that Poland is one of the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, which is "on the front line" with Russia. In addition, such parties are the Baltic countries and Romania. Although each of them is doing everything to "resist Russian aggression", they do not have enough resources.
"In order to create such a deterrent that would deter Russia from military adventurism, Poland needs to complete the modernization of its tank fleet... There are still about five hundred outdated Russian tanks in the Polish army, many of them are more than thirty years old, " Gure explained.
The fact that Poland can buy M1 Abrams tanks from the United States was reported back in February 2020. In addition, it was about the purchase of German Leopard-2 tanks.
Last November, Warsaw approved the deployment of additional troops from the United States, including to protect against threats from Moscow. The signed agreement assumes that at least one thousand American servicemen will be additionally deployed to Poland, as well as the creation of an advanced command center of the fifth corps of the US Army in the country.
