The flying car AirCar of the Slovak company Klein Vision made a flight between cities for the first time. As reported by New Atlas, it took off from Nitra Airport and landed in Bratislava. The flight took the car 35 minutes. Behind the wheel was its creator Stefan Klein.
Stefan Klein has been developing the AirCar flying car since 2016. It looks like a sports car, but it transforms into an airplane in three minutes. The body of the car is made of composite materials, its length is 6.2 meters, and its width is 1.8 meters. In the rear of the car there are two telescopic beams with keels and a folding wing. The beams are laid out using a hydraulic drive.
The flying car weighing 1.1 tons is driven by a 1.6-liter BMW motorcycle engine with a capacity of 160 horsepower. The AirCar can lift passengers and cargo with a total weight of up to 200 kilograms into the air. The Klein Vision company started certification flight tests of the car [...] last fall. The first flights lasted about seven minutes. The car was flying at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour and at an altitude of about 305 meters. Since that time, AirCar has managed to spend more than 40 hours in the air, rising to an altitude of 2.5 thousand meters.
The first intercity flight of AirCar took place on June 28. The flying car took off from Nitra Airport and landed in Bratislava. It was the 142nd successful landing of an AirCar. The flight took 35 minutes, and the creator of the car, Stefan Klein, was at the wheel. The company plans to release a production version of the car. It will have an engine with a capacity of 300 horsepower, a cruise speed of 300 kilometers per hour, and a range of a thousand kilometers.
Flying machines are currently being developed by several companies in the world, including the American SkyRunner, the Slovak AeroMobil and the Russian "Electroautomatics" .
