TSAMTO, July 1. China should accelerate the modernization of national defense and turn the PLA into a world-class army. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated by the President of the People's Republic of China, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping.
On July 1, a solemn meeting was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
"It is necessary to accelerate the modernization of the national defense and the armed forces. A strong country should have a strong army, only a strong army can ensure national security, " Xi Jinping said in a speech to the audience in the main square of the country.
"We must fully implement the party's idea of strengthening the army in a new era… We must maintain the absolute leadership of the party over the army, firmly adhere to the path of strengthening the army with Chinese specifics, comprehensively promote the political construction of the army, reform to strengthen the army, increase the combat capability of the army through scientific and technological progress, strengthen the army through highly qualified personnel, command the army in accordance with the law," RIA Novosti quotes the head of the People's Republic of China.
Xi Jinping stated the need to " turn the PLA into a world-class army, as well as ensure the protection of state sovereignty, security and development interests of the country with even more reliable means."
As the agency reminds, earlier during the XIX Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2017, Xi Jinping said that the PRC intends to modernize its armed forces by 2035 so that they fully meet the challenges of modernity and the requirements of the new times. He also stressed that China should build a strong and modern army, navy, air force, land forces, as well as strategic support troops and by the middle of this century completely turn the Chinese army into an advanced world-class armed force.
