TSAMTO, June 30. ARTEC GmbH, a joint venture of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall, announced the transfer to the customer of the last of the Boxer BBM ordered for the German Armed Forces with an 8x8 wheel formula.
The customers of the BBM "Boxer" are the German Federal Office for Armament, Information Technology and Maintenance (BAAINBw) and the Ministry of Defense of the country.
As noted, the delivery was completed on time, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, ARTEC GmbH delivered 405 Boxer armored vehicles to the Bundeswehr, including 72 units. in the version of the ambulance, 65 command vehicles and 256 units. in the version of an armored personnel carrier. Another 12 cars are used for driver training.
Note: the order volume is 403 units; the total declared number of delivered BBM "Boxer" (405 units) may include two prototypes.
As reported by TSAMTO, the BBM "Boxer" was developed by the ARTEC GmbH consortium in the interests of the Armed Forces of Germany and the Netherlands. The cost of the contract concluded in 2006 by the Organization for Cooperation in the Field of Arms Procurement OCCAR (Organization conjointe de cooperation en matiere d'armement) with ARTEC GmbH for the serial production of 472 Boxer armored vehicles is estimated at 1.2 billion rubles. euro. The total cost of development and production is 1.429 billion. euro. The agreement provided for the production of 272 BBM for the German Armed Forces and 200 units for the Dutch Armed Forces. In December 2018, the German Armed Forces additionally ordered 131 BBM "Boxer".
In December 2015, OCCAR signed a contract with the ARTEC consortium worth 476 million euros for the supply of 131 more Boxer armored combat vehicles to the German Armed Forces.
In 2017, a contract was signed with ARTEC GmbH for the repair and modernization of the first-issue BBM to the A2 version, developed on the basis of the experience gained during the operation in Afghanistan. Taking into account the additional order in 2021, all the Boxer BBMS will be upgraded to the latest configuration by 2024.
