General designer of UEC-Klimov Vsevolod Eliseev believes that the new GSU will be in demand on the market

The company " UEC-Klimov "(part of the United Engine Corporation Rostec) presented the concept of a hybrid power plant demonstrator (GSU), the capacity of which, according to preliminary estimates, will be 500 kW. This was reported to journalists on Monday in the press service of the UEC.
A hybrid power plant of a sequential circuit with a capacity of 500 kW (680 hp) will be created on the basis of the VK-650V engine. "Potential objects of application of this class of power are light multi-purpose helicopters, promising unmanned (optionally manned) aircraft with a take - off weight of 2-8 tons, aircraft of local air lines, air taxi, business aviation, vertical take-off and landing aircraft," the UEC reported.
As the general designer of UEC-Klimov Vsevolod Eliseev noted, the new GSU will be in demand on the market. "In order to ensure the creation of the GSU demonstrator, preliminary calculated estimates of the target characteristics of the electric elements of the power plant necessary to ensure the flight performance of potential objects of application were performed. By consolidating common efforts and competencies, we will be able to create a competitive product, " the press service quoted him as saying.
"During an online meeting with the participation of the UEC and the Central Institute of Aviation Engine Engineering named after P. I. Baranov (CIAM, part of the SIC "Zhukovsky Institute"), the importance of the GSU project for creating the scientific and technical reserve of the corporation and further developing competencies in the field of creating hybrid engines for various purposes was noted. As a result of the meeting, it was decided that UEC-Klimov and CIAM will become partners in the development of the GSU," the press service informed.
According to the Director General of CIAM Mikhail Gordin, the institute has competencies in the field of GSU. "The Institute is the main executor of a number of contracts aimed at forming a leading scientific and technical reserve in the field of creating electric and hybrid power plants for aircraft. We are ready to share our accumulated scientific, technical and practical experience with the industry, with the UEC," the press service quoted him as saying.
The project to create a hybrid power plant demonstrator was initiated by UEC in August 2020, the main contractor and developer was identified as "UEC-Klimov". The first model of the GSU will be presented at MAKS-2021 as part of the general exhibition exposition of the UEC stand.
