Moscow. June 28. INTERFAX-The United States airstrikes against pro-Iranian forces in the border area of Iraq and Syria are illegitimate and are an act of aggression against these states, said Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Yuri Shvytkin.
"I believe this is an undisguised aggression on the part of the United States, a violation of the principles of the integrity and sovereignty of these states, both Syria and Iraq," Shvytkin told Interfax on Monday.
In his opinion, the US airstrikes are "nothing but interference in internal affairs."
"This is unacceptable, there can be no talk about any legitimacy of such actions," the deputy chairman of the committee said.
Earlier, the Pentagon reported that the US armed forces, on the orders of President Joe Biden, carried out airstrikes on objects of pro-Iranian groups in the border area of Iraq and Syria.
"On the instructions of President Biden, the US armed forces earlier this evening carried out precision airstrikes on targets used by Iranian-backed groups in the border area of Iraq and Syria. These targets were chosen because these objects are used by Iran-backed militants who carry out drone attacks against US personnel and facilities in Iraq, " the report published on the website of the US military department says.
It is specified that the strikes were carried out on operational facilities and weapons storage facilities in two places in Syria and in one - in Iraq. They were located near the border between these countries.
