In Poland, from 2013 to 2015, the process of creating the PL-01 stealth tank was actively underway, which was advertised in the media and, apparently, ended in failure. The combat vehicle was developed in case of a military invasion by Russia, American military expert Peter Suciu wrote in an article for the 19FortyFive portal.
The basis of the development was the Swedish light tank CV90120-T. The prototype had similarities with the American M-1 Abrams, the German Leopard 2 and the Israeli Merkava ,as well as some common features with the Russian T-14 Armata.
The features of the Polish stealth, according to the expert, were an unmanned remote-controlled tower, a rear entrance hatch and a compartment for transporting soldiers.
The multilayer armor was supposed to be modular. It had to withstand a hit by an armor-piercing shell, an explosion of a mine or an improvised explosive device.
The main caliber of the tank was supposed to be a 120-millimeter cannon, compatible with all standard NATO tank shells, as well as capable of launching guided missiles. Also, a machine gun could be installed as a secondary weapon.
Stealth technologies, according to the developers, were supposed to reduce the probability of detecting the tank with standard thermal sensors. At the same time, the body of the car had a radio-absorbing coating.
The developer of PL-01 was the company Obrum, however, as the American expert clarifies, there has been no news about the project in recent years.
Earlier, the former commander of the Polish Ground Forces, Waldemar Skrzypczak , said that Russia, China and the United States have deadly weapons of the future. According to him, we are talking about equipment equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
