TSAMTO, June 23. The command of the Colombian Navy has initiated the process of acquiring new navigation radars for its light frigates FS-1500 of the Almirante Padilla class.
According to the information Infodefensa.com, the Furuno 3320NXT with the Furuno XN12CF antenna was chosen as the new radar, which will be supplied by Electronica Maritima ITEC S. A. S at a cost of about $ 448 thousand.
The new radars, which will replace the Furuno 2117, are a solid-state station with a capacity of 1 kW, which significantly reduces the radar signature and, consequently, reduces the probability of detecting the ship by enemy radio intelligence systems. The station will provide the ability to simultaneously accompany up to 100 different targets.
The installation of the radar will be carried out at the enterprise of the national corporation Cotecmar (Corporacion de Ciencia y Tecnologia Para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval y Maritima Colombiana) in accordance with the Fleet Construction and Optimization Plan (Procyon), which provides for the use of the capabilities of the national industry, in particular Cotecmar, not only for the construction of new ships, but for their maintenance and modernization.
The Colombian Navy has four FS-1500 light frigates in service, built at the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW) in Kiel.
