Beijing. June 23. INTERFAX-China strongly opposes the passage of American warships through the Taiwan Strait, according to a statement issued by the Eastern Zone of the Combat Command of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) in connection with the passage through the strait on the eve of the US Navy destroyer Curtis Wilbur.
The passage of the ship "fully shows that the United States is the greatest creator of risks to regional security, and we strongly oppose this," the statement said.
It emphasizes: "The American side is deliberately playing the same old tricks, creating problems and disrupting order in the Taiwan Strait."
At the same time, the US Navy's 7th Fleet said that the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer passed on Tuesday "a normal transit route through the Taiwan Strait" in accordance with international law.
"The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region," the navy said in a statement.
