Elon Musk's company plans to deploy a total of 12 thousand satellites with a total cost of about $10 billion, according to Reuters

LONDON, June 22. /TASS/. Elon Musk's company SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies) plans to provide wireless Internet around the world by September using the Starlink satellite system. This was reported on Tuesday by Reuters with reference to the president of the American aerospace corporation Gwynne Shotwell.

"We have successfully deployed about 1,800 satellites, and once they reach operational orbit, we will have global Internet coverage, but then we will need to get regulatory approvals," she said at the Macquarie Group technology web conference.

SpaceX plans, according to Shotwell, to deploy a total of 12 thousand satellites at a total cost of about $10 billion. In May, Elon Musk said that the company received more than 500 thousand orders for connecting to the Internet network.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved SpaceX's plans this year to deploy some Starlink satellites in lower-Earth orbit than planned, which will help provide high-speed broadband internet to people who currently don't have access to it.

The Starlink network is designed to provide Internet access by deploying a large number of small spacecraft weighing up to 500 kg in near-Earth orbit. In May 2019, its first 60 spacecraft were launched into space.
