Berlin. June 20. INTERFAX-The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, announced the completion of the sixth round of negotiations on the revival of the Iranian nuclear deal, noting that the next meeting of the commission may well be the final one.
"The Joint Commission met today, assessed the significant progress made in the Vienna talks, including during the current sixth round, and decided to take a break to allow participants to consult with their capitals in preparation for what should be the final round of negotiations," Ulyanov wrote on his Twitter page.
Earlier, Ulyanov said that it would not be possible to reach agreements on the restoration of the JCPOA before the presidential elections in Iran.
"Today, it is quite obvious that it will not be possible to reach agreements in Vienna before June 18, when the presidential elections will be held in Iran. The negotiations will continue after the presidential elections, " Ulyanov told Interfax.
The United States has said it will continue negotiations with Iran on a return to the 2015 nuclear deal under its new leadership.
"We will continue to discuss with our allies and partners the issue of mutual return to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)," State Department spokesman Ned Price said, referring to the results of the presidential election held in Iran on Friday, which was won by the chairman of the Supreme Court of the country, Ibrahim Raisi.
Raisi is under US sanctions, in particular for his alleged involvement in the persecution and execution of political prisoners in the 1980s. During the election campaign, the politician promised to fight against poverty and corruption, build 4 million new homes in four years and build a " people's government for the sake of a strong Iran."
Raisi has in the past harshly criticized the agreement on the Iranian atom, concluded by Iran with the " six " international mediators. However, now he, like the other candidates, expresses his readiness to fulfill the parameters of the deal if the United States returns to it.
According to some analysts, the results of the elections in Iran may have a negative impact on the negotiation process and delay the achievement of an agreement to restore the deal.
