Moscow. June 18. INTERFAX-The calculation of Western countries for technical superiority in terms of implementing the Open Skies Treaty (DON), from which the United States and later Russia withdrew, did not justify itself, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The history of DON allows us to draw at least two conclusions. The first. Attempts to achieve unilateral advantages, while ignoring the interests and concerns of Russia, are doomed to failure, " the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Friday in connection with the notification of the Russian side to the depositaries of the withdrawal from the treaty.
"The second one. The calculation that the" technical superiority " of the West will allow to bypass Russia, to leave it on the sidelines, is also not justified. This was the case with the transition to digital technologies in the implementation of the DON - it was actively promoted by the Americans, and as a result, our country was 8-9 years ahead of its Western partners," the document says.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that "the same will happen now, when the United States is destroying the Treaty, relying on national technical means of control."
