U.S. sanctions could disrupt Russia's construction of a communications satellite for Angola. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a source in the rocket and space industry. The reason for the difficulties was the lack of a permit for the supply of American electronics from a European contractor.
"The United States does not give permission to the European company Airbus to supply Russia with a payload module with relay equipment for the Angolan satellite AngoSat-2 due to the presence of an American electronic component base in it," the source said.
According to the source, this is due to the fact that the United States has banned the supply of American space electronics to Russia since May 2021, which falls under the requirements of the ITAR rules for the export of goods and services of defense significance.
The refusal to supply electronics, according to the source, will require a review of the circuit solutions in the satellite and their coordination with the customer.
In 2009, Russia and Angola signed a contract for the production of the AngoSat-1 communications satellite by the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia. Its launch took place in December 2017, but soon after it was put into orbit, communication with it was lost.
