A Russian Su-35 fighter jet detected and escorted a US Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft over the Pacific Ocean. This was reported on Thursday, June 10, by the press service of the Eastern Military District.
It is noted that on Thursday, the Russian means of controlling the airspace over the Pacific Ocean detected an air target approaching the state border of the country.
To identify it, a Su-35 fighter from the Pacific Fleet air defense forces on duty was lifted into the air.
"The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air target as a strategic RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force and escorted it over the Pacific Ocean," the press service said.
After the American plane turned away from the Russian borders, the Su-35 returned to its home airfield.
It is noted that the flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace. The state borders of the Russian Federation were not violated.
On June 4, a Russian MiG-31 flew to escort a US Air Force patrol aircraft over the Barents Sea on June 4.
At the same time, in May, the MiG-31 fighter took to the air twice to escort patrol aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force in the Barents Sea area. Also, a similar Russian fighter took to the air to prevent the violation of the state border by an American plane over the Chukchi Sea.
In the same month, the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, said that NATO military exercises are shifting to the Russian borders, and the intensity of US strategic aviation flights is increasing, which is provocative.
Moiseev also pointed to the increase in the intensity of flights in the Arctic by strategic bomber aircraft of the United States Air Force.
