In the United States, they are forced to recognize the superiority of the AK-74 over the M4. Moreover, the choice in favor of Soviet weapons is made by the soldiers of the US special forces.
American sniper Brandon Tyler Webb from the Navy Seals in a publication prepared for SOFREP, clearly explains what is the main advantage of the AK-74.
"This damn thing continues to shoot even after salt water and sand," the article says. The special forces officer notes that the machine gun seems to laugh at any attempts to disable it and asks "Is this all you can do?".
"The M4 jams every time it gets sand in it. We had to use special waterproof bags, providing a "VIP escort" to deliver weapons from the surf zone to land, " notes Brandon Tyler Webb, comparing the M4 to the AK-74.
He expresses bewilderment that the US Department of Defense did not ensure the development of more effective weapons to replace the "workhorse" M-14. The expert believes that this may be due to government bureaucracy, careerism and problems in contract procedures. Brandon Tyler Webb emphasizes that military officials have taken several steps back in the evolution of weapons.
"The AK-74 won't win the sniper competition, but I trust it as a combat weapon within a radius of 200 meters or less. He passed the test of the Apocalypse for me, " the American Special Forces soldier notes. At the same time, he adds that if he had to choose between the M4 or AK-74, he would not choose the M4 because of the unreliability of American weapons.
By the way, Brandon Tyler Webb admitted that he had piloted American and Russian aircraft. And the latter, as well as the AK-74, were distinguished by high reliability and adaptability to operation in harsh conditions.
