Washington. June 7. INTERFAX-Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that during meetings with the head of the US State Department Anthony Blinken and US senators, they discussed increasing military assistance to Ukraine, as well as strengthening security in the Black and Azov Seas.
"I had a personal meeting with the US senators who came, and the US Secretary of State, and we discussed a possible increase in military assistance," Zelensky said in an interview with Axios.
"It was about security, about strengthening security in the Black and Azov Seas, along the coastline, because our position there, in my opinion, is quite weak. Russia actually dominates the entire Black Sea, it is true, and we recognize this, and we would like to have a serious force there to protect our country and our borders, only for defense purposes, " he said.
The President of Ukraine added that a number of other issues related to assistance to Ukraine in the field of security were also discussed.
Last week, Democratic U.S. Senators Gene Shaheen and Chris Murphy, as well as Republican Senator Rob Portman, visited Ukraine.
